Abstract
From the analysis of the social networks underlying the industrial networks of Silicon Valley, this search points out that because of the nature of the exchanged goods and the degree of interdependence between the economic actors, the exchange by the gift is the principle rule of exchange in networks. In Silicon Valley, the exchanges of information between venture capitalists, lawyers, entrepreneurs, managers of large companies, journalists, professors... are done essentially within networks of interdependent and complementary actors who implicitly respect the rules of the gift exchange theory.
