Inside Huawei's world: SKEMA students in Suzhou gain a deeper understanding of 5G, AI, and career opportunities
In a quest for knowledge about cutting-edge 5G technology and AI algorithms, SKEMA students recently undertook a transformative journey to Suzhou Huawei Innovation Lab. Led by Matthieu Dumont, director of SKEMA China, the students were treated to an immersive exploration of Huawei's rich history, advanced research, and development capabilities, as well as rich recruitment programmes.
“We extend our deep appreciation to the Huawei management team for hosting our SKEMA Suzhou students at its impressive research centre in Suzhou. This impactful visit has not only broadened our students' perspectives on the ICT industry but offered an immersion into this giant tech company and provided a unique insight into Huawei's remarkable recruitment programmes," said Matthieu Dumont.
Into the heart of technology
The journey began with a warm welcome from Huawei at their R&D Centre, nestled in the Silicon Valley of Suzhou, Sangtiandao Island. The centre's layout, comprising 19 continental-style buildings, forms a picturesque town. The students delved into the world of 5G and AI algorithms under the guidance of Huawei 5G engineer Jia Zhen. The emphasis was on Huawei's pursuit of technological innovation, particularly on how 5G technology is applied in different industries. Huawei France's public relations manager, Lu Jiayu, shed light on Huawei's corporate development, emphasising its independence as a wholly employee-owned company. She highlighted Huawei's notable contributions to environmental protection, education, and carbon emission reduction, showcasing their "Forest Guardian" initiative that combines mobile phone recycling with AI.
Anne-Sophie Manach, Huawei's recruitment manager in France, underlined the company's open and diverse culture, customer-centric approach, and the dual career paths offered to employees. The event also featured insights from Tang Xiaoyun, HR of Huawei Shanghai R&D Centre, on the company's recruitment policies in China and its commitment to providing development opportunities to new employees.
An insightful experience for students
SKEMA students expressed their enthusiasm and curiosity, with Arthur Charvoz, an MSc International Marketing and Business Development student, stating, “It's a great opportunity for us! There's no doubt that going behind the scenes of Huawei's innovations has inspired some of my fellow students to get into this company which is determined to shape the future of technology." SKEMA alumnus, Yihan Lu, also shared her thoughts about career development at Huawei France. "Thanks to the professional experiences while studying the MSc International Human Resources Management at SKEMA, I have learned a lot about HR theory and practice, such as recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and multinational HR skills in different cultures. Welcome to Huawei Paris Lab, you will have a promising future!"
