On 25 October, students from SKEMA Suzhou embarked on a journey into the world of online travel agencies as they visited the global giant, Trip.com Group, in Shanghai.

Led by director of SKEMA China, Matthieu Dumont, and career advisor Joyce, this excursion provided students an opportunity to gain insights into the travel industry's inner workings and the vital role technology plays in shaping the future of travel.

Immersive tour

The visit commenced with an introduction to Trip.com's rich history. Cindy, an HR representatives of the company, took the students on a journey through the evolution of this travel industry giant. From its humble beginnings to its current global presence, the students were able to grasp the remarkable journey of Trip.com and its commitment to innovation.

A highlight of the visit was the tour of Trip.com's Network Operation Center (NOC), a hub of cutting-edge technology and the heartbeat of the company's operations. The NOC is responsible for real-time tracking of international and domestic air tickets, train tickets, global hotels, and scenic spot ticket orders, as well as providing 24/7 emergency support services worldwide.

Alumni interaction and professional training

Furthermore, several SKEMA alumni shared their career development advice with the students. Alexandra Horle and Christine Liu, who have managed product operations and business development for several years at Trip.com, shed light on their personal journeys and the opportunities for growth and development within the company.

To round out the visit, Ben, a soft skills trainer at Trip.com, engaged the students in a discussion about the importance of interpersonal communication skills in a professional setting. This valuable insight into soft skills provided a holistic perspective on what it takes to excel in the competitive world of online travel.

This visit to Trip.com Group not only deepened the students' understanding of the online travel industry but also showcased SKEMA's commitment to talent cultivation and providing real-world experiences that prepare its students for the future. It was a day of inspiration, learning, and networking, leaving students eager to contribute their skills and ideas to the dynamic world of travel and technology.
