SKEMA Publika think tank activities: A holistic view of influence

Over the past six months, the SKEMA Publika think tank has continued to develop leading analyses and events on societal, political, and governance topics. Here is an overview of its past achievements and upcoming events.

Conferences: At the Heart of Influences

On 21 March, SKEMA Publika launched the "At the Heart of Influences" series, with the first conference titled "Law and Power: Rules and Standards at the Heart of Influences". This event provided a unique platform to discuss how rules and standards govern and shape influences on a global scale.

On 29 June, the second iteration of the series took place, focused on education as a field of influence: "Higher Education in Globalisation: Between Standards and Influences, What Training for Future Executives?". SKEMA dean and executive president Alice Guilhon was a key speaker.

Publications: Sport, metaverse, economy and counter-influence

As part of its ongoing goal to produce in-depth analyses, the think tank, through the expertise of Simon Chadwick, professor and specialist in the relationship between sport, geopolitics and economics at SKEMA, published articles on sports governance. Simon Chadwick and Rauf Mammadov also tackled cutting-edge topics like sports and the metaverse, illustrating their commitment to examining influence in all its aspects. Jean-Baptiste Guégan, a specialist in the geopolitics of sport, published an op-ed on allocating broadcasting rights for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Amaury Goguel, director of our MSc Financial Management and Investment programme, wrote a comprehensive report on the imbalances of Chinese growth. At the same time, a note by Claude Revel titled "Influence and Counter-Influence" was published.

MINEPS VII: Global engagement for physical education and sport

Sarah Vallée, project manager and representative of the think tank, attended the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII), which took place from 26 to 29 June in Baku, Azerbaijan. During the "Youth Take the Lead" round table, she had the opportunity to present the upcoming study titled "Sport of Tomorrow: Needs and Ideas of International Youth for Decision Makers". This study, to be published in July, was peer-reviewed by UNESCO. The study highlights three key findings:

  1. Youth engagement in sport is motivated by personal benefits.
  2. Sport is seen as a tool for social integration and inclusivity.
  3. Sport is perceived as conveying universal values.

Press and Media: Thinking the Future

Claude Revel, development director of SKEMA Publika, was interviewed by Marianne magazine, where she shared her perspectives on contemporary issues. In addition, her participation in the "Doing Business" conference offered valuable insights into today's business practices.

Claude Revel was also invited to the Open Box TV set, alongside Alain Juillet, a former senior official in charge of artificial intelligence in the Fillon government, to discuss the subject of standards. More recently, her interview with Souveraine Tech was published on its website: "La vision budgétaire a remplacé la vision politique" (The budgetary vision has replaced the political vision). In the interview, she discussed the missions of SKEMA Publika and the topics of artificial intelligence and economics.

Podcasts: New Perspectives

A series of podcasts was also launched this year. The first, a discussion between Simon Chadwick and Frédéric Munier on the occasion of the release of the latter's book, "The Geopolitical Economy of SportPower, Politics, Money, and the State", was published in June. Since 3 July, the programme has included a new episode with Jean-Philippe Courtois, chairman of the board of SKEMA Business School, titled: "Jean-Philippe Courtois: digital innovation as a lever for corporate sustainability". Two new podcasts will be published soon: one on the Metaverse with Margherita Pagani and another on the geopolitics of accounting with Raluca Sandu.
