A champion on and off the track: Romain Henry's athletic and academic journey
Romain Henry, a student in the MSc Digital Marketing and Artificial Intelligence programme at our Sophia Antipolis campus, recently became a vice-champion in the 110-metre hurdles competition organised by Fédération française du sport universitaire (FFSU). The 26-year-old, hailing from Aix-en-Provence, is proud to have represented SKEMA Business School. He shares his experience in this interview.
Romain, you are the university vice-champion in the 110-metre hurdles competition, having competed in Blois. How do you feel?
I'm proud to have represented SKEMA on the track! It was a very enjoyable competition, and I finished with a time of 13.87 seconds! This was the fourth time I participated in this university race. I am particularly pleased to have had the support of SKEMA Sports for this project, which financed my travel and hotel stays. I found a school where it is possible to balance studies with the 20 hours of training required by this high-level sport.
At what age did you start athletics?
I started the 110-metre quite late, at 19 years of age. I have been on the high-level athletes' list and was even ranked 3rd in the French Championships for the sport in 2016. Before joining SKEMA, I practised it on a professional level in the United States at Washburn University in Kansas. In this capacity, I had the chance to participate in the American university championships. At that time, I trained about 20 hours a week.
What are your plans after SKEMA?
I am currently completing my MSc in Digital Marketing and Artificial Intelligence at the Sophia Antipolis campus. From 1 July, I will start an internship as a sales advisor at "Le Collectionnist", a high-end real estate agency that rents luxury villas. After this experience, I plan to go abroad as part of the VIE programme, possibly to Asia, Oceania, or America. I'm keeping my options open!
