Opinion Way's SKEMA x EY Talent Barometer 2024: Insights into Gen Z's embrace of generative AI

Generation Z, known for its flexibility and innovation, is currently at the crossroads of a rapidly changing world and the advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI). The latest survey from the Talent Barometer 2024, which gathered the responses of over a thousand higher education and Grandes Ecoles students, including those from SKEMA, offers a unique insight into this generation ready to shape the future.

Raised in a digital environment that they are set to use and revolutionise, Generation Z shows remarkable ease with emerging technologies, especially generative AI. This is evident from the latest edition of the SKEMA x EY Talent Barometer, conducted by Opinion Way. Valentin Carre-Guellaën, a third-year student in the Master in Management (PGE) programme at SKEMA, considers generative AI a major revolution, emphasising its growing importance in the professional world. "If I obtain AI certifications, I would highlight them on my CV," he states.

Evolving professional expectations

Gen Z seeks diverse experiences and does not necessarily envision a long-term future with their first company. Louis Lanel, a PGE student in the M1-year at the Grand Paris campus, specialising in finance, explains that the diversity of experiences is essential for his generation. Perla Rueda, an M1-year student in the PGE strategy track, adds, "Loyalty to a company depends on its ability to meet employees' expectations. This flexibility reflects a pragmatic and adaptable career approach."

Challenges of successful professional integration

Amine Ezzerouali, professor of organisation management and director of the MSc in International Human Resources and Performance Management at SKEMA, highlights the challenges faced by these young talents. Considering this study, he emphasises the need for tailored support to facilitate professional integration in a world where generative AI is becoming increasingly significant. "Higher education and businesses must rise to the challenge of training these young people in generative AI, not only to enhance their work performance but also to prepare them for a constantly evolving job market," he explains.

A generation ready to innovate? Definitely!

With its natural affinity to generative AI, Generation Z is ideally positioned to navigate and shape the future of the professional world. The Talent Barometer 2024 reveals a generation not only ready to embrace technological changes but also to integrate them creatively and effectively into their professional and personal lives. Despite the challenges, this generation is ready to make a significant impact in the era of generative AI.

"This second edition of the SKEMA x EY Talent Barometer is rich in trends and reflections for our corporate partners looking to recruit young talent. The professional aspirations of the younger generations are evolving, adapting, and reinventing their relationship with the company. Their agility is particularly evident in the adoption of new technologies and generative AI, which we wanted to question them about this year," explains Pascale Viala, director of our Corporate Office.
