SKEMA alumna Laura Di Muzio to carry the Olympic torch in July
Laura Di Muzio (SKEMA 2014), a graduate of SKEMA Business School's Master in Management (PGE) programme and the MSc in International Marketing and Business Development, will carry the Olympic torch in July in the Hauts-de-France region. This professional rugby player in both Rugby Union and Sevens is the head of a startup that promotes women's sports in companies and helps female athletes find sponsors.
This is a great opportunity to highlight women's sports. In a few months months, Laura Di Muzio will carry the sacred Olympic flame during its passage through Hauts-de-France. "I feel super proud and very lucky. I didn't think I would have this opportunity," says the thirty-year-old. She adds, "A friend told me he had been selected to carry the flame. And then, I remembered that my profile had been proposed by the Caisse d'Epargne but I had no news. While digging through my spam, I found the email from the committee!"
Deeply committed to the cause of women's sports, Laura made it her profession and launched her company "LJA Sports" at the age of 26, after working in the marketing sector. Today, her startup has three founding partners and two employees. She regularly delivers talks at major groups and organises team-building workshops to raise awareness about this cause and more. "We work with players and women's clubs to help them find sponsors, and with companies to discuss the values that we hold dear and that we experience daily. We're working to break down barriers and promote greater equity and parity," she emphasises.
Among her many roles, Laura holds the position of president of Stade Villeneuvois Lille Métropole, one of the finest clubs in the region and present within the Top 12 women's league (the equivalent of the French men's Top 14 championship). "Being in this position is not insignificant, in a sport where women are less present as they get older."
Memories from the Raleigh campus
After her preparatory classes, Laura chose to attend a business school. Attracted by the school's sports project, in line with her sporting aspirations at the time, she has fond memories of SKEMA. "I remember my time on the Raleigh campus. It was a condensed version of the dream life. We had access to all the sports facilities. I was able to integrate by playing in the local American women's rugby team. This immersed me in the American life," she reminisces.
