SKEMA alumna transforms beauty industry with eco-conscious startup 'Wild Apothecary'
SKEMA alumna Delphine Hogan-Lacroix (SKEMA 2007) launched "Wild Apothecary" in the spring of 2023. Through this startup, the she aims to produce natural and eco-responsible cosmetics. To achieve this, she relies notably on the natural properties of cold-pressed wild rosehip oil, a miraculous elixir. Currently, she is the only one producing it organically in France.
Did not Voltaire have his character Candide say, "We must cultivate our garden"? What if the perfect "skincare routine" lay in this adage? After a career at Johnson & Johnson, where she was responsible for the operational marketing and development of the group's major brands (Le Petit Marseillais, Neutrogena, RoC), as well as positions at L'Oréal and Beiersdorf, Delphine Hogan-Lacroix wanted to dive into the adventure of entrepreneurship. "I always wanted to bring my ideas to life. I've long harboured the desire to establish a mindful, conscious, and healthy cosmetics brand, and to utilise precious raw materials from nature, without chemical transformations or synthetic ingredients," she confides.
In her workshop nestled in the heart of the Île-de-France region, amid a 1500 m2 organic garden blooming with wild roses, plums, vines, hazelnuts, and almonds, she devises "homemade" raw botanical recipes in the manner of yesteryear's apothecaries (hence the company's name).
Locally sourced products
Delphine places great emphasis on sourcing her products locally. Among her flagship products is the first French wild rosehip oil, 100% pure, raw, organic, and cold-pressed. "It is one of the most precious oils in the world, containing Vitamin A (carotenoids), C, and E. It nourishes the skin, brightens the complexion, and acts as a natural anti-ager. I have always been careful about the sourcing of my products, using what is available here. I make clean, raw beauty products because I want people to know what they are applying to their skin. All Wild Apothecary raw materials are certified Organic Agriculture, and our bottles are transparent so one can see what's inside," explains the SKEMA PGE programme graduate. Marketing, communication, preparation, recipes — Delphine manages everything by herself.
She has gradually built an Instagram community with content highlighting the 1001 skincare benefits of raw homemade cosmetics! Soon, the alumna plans to diversify her range and launch almond, plum or hazelnut oils, and facial cleansers, in addition to wild rosehip, while utilising the by-products of her other productions.
