SKEMA Publika: a look back at the think tank’s first three months of existence

Launched in the digital format in late February this year, then at the SKEMA Business School press conference in March, the independent think tank SKEMA Publika aims “to produce accessible international thought far from formatted conventions, to fuel public debate and better enlighten national and international policymakers.” Here is a look back at the first three months of SKEMA Publika.

New publications

  • Spin-off analyses of the EYES report posted on the SKEMA PUBLIKA website

Since February, the think tank SKEMA PUBLIKA has put out several publications. After producing the policy paper EYES, it delved deeper into the results for France, Brazil, and the United States to look at the political preoccupations of young people in these countries as well as their attitudes toward work. These publications are each accompanied by videos from the "Youth Speak Out" series, in which three SKEMA students, Emeric Charrel, Katherine Hickson and Anant Upadhyay, answer several questions relating to the report.

  • Articles on topical issues, written by SKEMA professors

In April 2022, SKEMA PUBLIKA published a policy paper entitled "Artificial Intelligence: A Political Subject. The Main World Powers and the Place for France Among Them", which provides recommendations based on the findings of the study carried out by professors Ludovic Dibiaggio, Mohamed Keita and Lionel Nesta. This research was presented to several French members of parliament and to certain stakeholders in the private sector.

In April, Frederic Munier, professor of geopolitics, and Laurent Ferrara, professor of international economics, each shared their analysis of the Ukrainian conflict in two opinion pieces, providing a fresh perspective on this war.
A video interview on the same topic is available on the SKEMA PUBLIKA website.

These insights into the war in Ukraine were relayed by certain French media outlets, with Frederic Munier's article appearing in the magazine Marianne. As part of our Ukraine series, Frederic Munier published a second article, entitled "Could the war in Ukraine escalate out of control?", sharing a new development in the evolution of the conflict.

The month of June also saw the publication of a note entitled "How Can Public Authorities Use Big Data to Serve the General Interest?", by Rodolphe Desbordes.

A few events

  • Launch of the think tank on the Belo Horizonte campus on 11 May 2022

As part of an internal launch event, the think tank team presented SKEMA PUBLIKA, along with the note on Brazil derived from the EYES report, to a group of Brazilian students and professors from the Belo Horizonte campus.

  • "International Youth at Work", a conference with UNIDO held in Brussels on 20 May 2022

Organised jointly by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and SKEMA PUBLIKA, and based on our Youth at Work note, a conference was held on 20 May 2022, both at UNIDO in Brussels and online. Attendees included Patrick Gilabert, head of the UNIDO office in Brussels, along with certain senior representatives of the Commission and of the European Confederation of Directors Association.
