Vendée Globe: SKEMA Alumnus Benjamin Ferré Rounds Cape of Good Hope
Since setting sail from Les Sables-d’Olonne, Vendée, on November 10, Benjamin Ferré (SKEMA 2015), an alumnus of SKEMA Business School, continues his journey through the Southern Ocean. Battling turbulent waters, unpredictable winds, and towering waves, he currently holds 26th position, closely trailing Violette Dorange. Unfazed by the challenges, the determined graduate presses on.
Having successfully rounded the iconic Cape of Good Hope, Benjamin now charts a course toward the Kerguelen Islands en route to Australia. Aboard his vessel, Monnoyeur - Duo for a Job, he navigates cautiously, mindful of preserving his boat against the unforgiving conditions of the southern seas. In his fifth logbook entry, he reflects on the raw power of nature that leaves him in awe: “Here, through the roar of crashing waves that have been flooding my boat since last night, I feel the immense grandeur of nature and its indifference toward me,” he writes. Through his videos, Benjamin shares glimpses of his life on board, capturing both moments of wonder and the harsh reality of unpredictable weather. With over 26,000 kilometres still to sail, his journey back to Les Sables-d’Olonne is far from over.
The Battle Against Fatigue: The Invisible Foe
Despite his unwavering spirit and focus, Benjamin faces a formidable adversary: fatigue. The Southern Ocean demands constant vigilance, with endless course adjustments and physically draining manoeuvres like sail changes. “The Southern Ocean is relentless. Even the smallest mistake comes with immediate consequences,” he regularly shares on Instagram. Yet, amidst the gruelling conditions, the skipper radiates positivity, often seen singing and dancing aboard his boat in his videos.
