Last week was orientation in Raleigh – and students from over 30 nationalities joined the US campus.
January 10, the SKEMA US staff welcomed all new students and discussed a variety of topics to prepare them for a successful semester – information about the campus, academic programmes, career services, student clubs, partnership with the prestigious NC State University, details about the local area, and more. Most importantly, the staff emphasised the assistance and support they can provide to all students for issues ranging from academic questions to homesickness or cultural shock.
In between sessions, students were surprised with a beautiful performance from a local Colombian/Latin dance group – an ode to the diversity and multiculturalism of Raleigh and the US.
The next day, the Global Training Initiative welcomed students to NC State University with a presentation on US culture, campus facilities, and life in the US.
Student club fair
Clubs are an exciting part of the global SKEMA experience and Raleigh students have quite a wide range of options (NC State has 700 clubs that SKEMA students can join). Following the NC State orientation, SKEMA US hosted a student club fair to allow new students to learn about the clubs and meet with their members.
A dozen clubs from both SKEMA and NC State were in attendance, including SK’ONNECT (campus events and local weekend trips), SKEMA Ventures Club (entrepreneurship), the Finance Club, the Data Science and AI Club, SKEMA Consulting, the football and rugby clubs of NC State, and several more.
SKEMA mascot Leon the SKAMELEON joined the event, raffle prizes were given away and fresh popcorn was served. It was a joyful experience to kick off the spring semester.
