Management exercise: 750 PGE students attempt to save an imaginary company
Over four days, 750 first-year Master in Management (PGE) students will take part in a Serious Game management exercise and attempt to save a chain of high-end restaurants floundering after the departure of its well-known chef. The primary aim of this multi-campus seminar is to introduce the students to the challenges of knowledge management.
In the game, which was created by the PGE programme's lecturers, the students will be called on to assist a restaurant chain, "La Table de Marie", whose brand image is suffering because its head chef has retired and the sous-chef and three other experienced staff members have resigned, leading to the loss of a large part of the business's skills and experience.
The highly realistic scenario was created by a team led by lecturer-researcher Béatrice Toutsou. Using a dedicated interface and game engine, it will immerse the students in the issues faced by the high-end restaurant sector. Taking the role of consultants, they will analyse situations and offer solutions.
The Serious Game will bring together 122 multi-campus teams of six students for four days. On the first day, for example, the students will experience the consequences an organisation suffers when it fails to share knowledge: loss of brand image and financial losses. By taking part in a series of activities, they will build up a database of knowledge from reliable sources.
To help them as they progress through the game, the students will have access to several coaches on the Lille, Grand Paris and Sophia Antipolis campuses, as well as a toolbox of documents and videos. Each activity will be evaluated, either by the coaches or automatically via the interface. And at the end, the best team will win!
