Abstract

As the innovation within the textile industry grows, there is an increase in demand for fabrics that are universally in trend and timeless. Often when local textile designs are reinterpreted globally, almost negligible credit is given to the local communities involved. Making it even more relevant today to maintain the authenticity and transparency for a global sustainable luxury and fashion industry. In this chapter, we highlight the challenges of the local traditional textiles going global, its impact on the fashion industry, and how these can be addressed to solve the pertaining issues for sustainable production and consumption.
