Yield stress and structuration of magnetorheological suspensions

We have measured the yield stress of a magnetic suspension and the internal permeability of the particles as a function of the external magnetic field. The structure obtained under the same experimental conditions has been visualized by optical microscopy. We compare the experimental yield stress to the predictions of two models, one based on the rupture of a chain of spheres and the other on the rotation of ellipsoidal aggregates.
