MSc student in Raleigh stars in production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Alongside his internship as a financial analyst at WealthShield and his courses on SKEMA’s Raleigh campus, MSc Financial Markets & Investments student Raphael Zerbib finds the time for amateur dramatics and recently played Demetrius in a production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Anyone who says finance students are not interested in literature has clearly not met Raphaël Zerbib, a second-year MSc Financial Markets and Investments student with a passion for theatre.
He made his debut on the American stage before an audience of around a hundred people at NC State University theatre. "I heard that auditions were being held for a production of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. As I've been doing amateur dramatics for a few years, I decided to go along, but I didn't really know what to expect," said Raphaël.
After a multi-stage selection process, he was chosen to play Demetrius. "Preparing for this production was an incredible experience. I was coached by the producer for two months. She helped me get to grips with the text and pronounce the words properly," he added.
Mastering Shakespearean English was no easy task
"The biggest challenge for me was playing a role in a two-hour-long production in English, and Early Modern English at that!" laughed Raphaël. He enjoyed plenty of support as he stepped onto the stage from the SKEMA Raleigh staff, his fellow students, and even some lecturers among the audience. "I would like to thank the SKEMA community for their support during this exciting adventure!" he said.
