SKEMA students win bronze medal in the European university chess championships

Yovann Gatineau and Alexandre Houhou, students in SKEMA's Master in Management (PGE), finished third in the university chess championships held in Lodz, Poland, in July. This achievement affirms their title of French university champion, which they won last winter with the help of their teammate Nizar Alrobiai.

It is undeniable that SKEMA Business School has some brilliant chess players among its students. During the European University Games, Yovann Gatineau and Alexandre Houhou, M1 students in the Master in Management (PGE) on the Lille and Paris campuses, finished third in this prestigious competition. Organised every two years, these university games bring together 6,000 participants, representing a total of 46 nations.

SKEMA student voted best player

In the fast-paced team tournament, SKEMA won the bronze medal and finished undefeated with 4 wins and 5 draws. The two SKEMA students finished behind the excellent teams from Kozminski University, Poland (first), and Georgian State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sport, Georgia (second). At the individual level, Yovann Gatineau, a PGE student and an International Chess Master (which indicates an excellent level), won the gold medal on the first board with seven wins and two draws. The SKEMA student finished as the best player of the competition.

Congratulations, Yovann, Alexandre and Nizar!
