Abstract

This paper is based on the results of a qualitative study on organizational practices regarding balancing work and private life in seven Canadian knowledge intensive firms (KIF). These firms are product or service oriented with high intellectual added value and knowledge content. In our paper, we stress that, as in bureaucracies, we can find gender gaps in KIFs. Our explanation focus on management by project as an organizational form, that can explain why this work environment is not women-friendly. Though its effects are general, they’re particularly harsh on women, and we can assess requirements that imply discriminatory effects against women.
