Asia Pass: the ticket to gaining glocal experience in China and Asia

SKEMA's Suzhou campus has launched SKEMA Glocal Experience - Asia Pass: a series of activities designed to help international students understand and navigate the intricacies of staying in China and Asia.

SKEMA's Suzhou campus serves as a hub that connects international students to the vast business opportunities available in China and throughout Asia.

Tools and knowledge

As an international student, adjusting to a new environment can be challenging, especially when it comes to understanding the local culture. SKEMA China understands the importance of providing its students with the necessary tools and knowledge to make the most out of their stay in China and Asia.

From learning about local customs and societal rules to travelling tips and table manners, the Asia Pass programme has it all. The aim is to provide international students with an immersive experience that will enable them to embrace the local culture and gain a deeper understanding of the Asian-Pacific way of life.

The programme includes various aspects, such as :
  • Lifestyle: Participants will have the opportunity to learn about different aspects of Asian-Pacific lifestyle, such as daily routines, hobbies, and family values. They can also experience traditional Asian-Pacific pastimes, such as calligraphy and Chinese chess.

  • Customs: Understanding local customs is key to fitting in and feeling comfortable in a new environment. In Asia Pass, participants will learn about important customs and traditions in the area, such as gift-giving, showing respect to elders, and the significance of Asian-Pacific festivals.

  • Travelling tips: Asia has a rich history and culture, and there is much to explore beyond the campus. Participants will receive tips on travel planning, transportation, and sightseeing to help them make the most of their time in China and throughout.

  • Table manners: Dining etiquette varies greatly across cultures, and in Asia, there are specific customs and protocols that are important to observe. Participants will learn about Asian-Pacific table manners, including the use of chopsticks, seating arrangements, and etiquette around drinking and toasting.

  • Clothing: Dressing appropriately is a key aspect of adapting to a new culture. Participants will learn about traditional Asian dress, such as the qipao and the changshan, and how to choose clothing that is appropriate for different occasions.

  • Eating habits: Food is an important part of Asian-Pacific culture, and there is a wide variety of dishes to try. Participants will learn about the different types of Asian-Pacific cuisine, regional specialties, and dietary restrictions to help them navigate menus and make informed choices.

Some of the activities have been already on the agenda for 2023 spring semester and will be continuously updated each semester.
