[Transitions Week] A conference to better understand the links between biodiversity and climate
As part of the Transitions Week held from 17 to 21 March, SKEMA Transitions hosted a conference on biodiversity and its connection to climate change. The event took place on Tuesday 19 March at the Grand Paris campus, with a keynote by renowned ecologist Paul Leadley, professor at the University of Paris-Saclay.
The talk, entitled “Interactions between the biodiversity and climate crises: addressing common causes and implementing solutions with co-benefits”, brought together a diverse audience including first-year Master in Management (PGE) students, other master's students, professors and staff members from SKEMA Business School. Among the faculty present were Eva Niesten, full professor in strategy and sustainable development and director of the SKEMA Centre for Sustainability Studies, and Berill Blair, associate professor in resource governance and sustainability and member of the same research centre.
Understanding the interactions between the climate crisis and biodiversity collapse
Paul Leadley explored the complex links between the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, highlighting the need for a holistic approach to tackling both issues. The audience welcomed the clarity of his explanations and took the opportunity to ask questions about the political and economic implications of these environmental challenges. Isabelle Jauny, director of SKEMA Transitions, emphasised the value of the event: “Through these discussions, we help our students better grasp environmental challenges and develop critical thinking around possible solutions. The goal is to equip them to become agents of change.”
