Guillaume Marival (SKEMA 2022) is a graduate of SKEMA Business School's Grande École programme. After gaining valuable experience at Adidas in the UAE, Guillaume led several innovative projects. Reflecting on his journey, he shares his experiences, challenges, and the lessons he learned. His key advice for students? Be adaptable, stay curious, and seize every opportunity with confidence!

Can you tell us about your time at SKEMA Business School and what you gained from it?

Absolutely! I joined SKEMA Business School in 2019 as part of the Grande École programme at the Sophia Antipolis campus. The campus, set in a stunning location, provided the perfect environment for learning and personal growth. SKEMA gave me so much, both academically and personally. During my years there, I not only gained a solid academic foundation in management and strategy but also learned the importance of cultural openness. The numerous group projects, often with students from diverse nationalities, helped me develop valuable intercultural communication and leadership skills. I was also fortunate enough to study at the Suzhou campus and actively participate in campus life there. Following my internship, I was promoted to Senior Specialist in Strategy & Digital Transformation at Adidas. It was an incredibly formative experience.

After SKEMA, you’ve had some fascinating roles. Can you tell us more about them?

After graduating in 2022, I had the opportunity to join Adidas as a Business Development Intern in Dubai. The role focused on market intelligence, gathering and analysing data to define market share. I also worked on developing new business models for complex markets such as Algeria and Iran, and I coordinated channels to set business priorities for 2022. This first experience gave me crucial insights into the dynamics of the Middle East and North Africa markets, and allowed me to sharpen my strategic skills.

You then took on a more strategic role at Adidas. Can you tell us about that experience?

Yes, after my internship, I was promoted to Senior Specialist in Strategy & Digital Transformation at Adidas. This was an incredibly formative experience. Based in Dubai, I spent over two years incubating AI analytics solutions for stores, which boosted revenues by more than €60,000 and reduced wait times by 10%. I also managed a small team of two, which was my first opportunity to take on managerial responsibilities. Additionally, I was involved in setting up mobile retail points during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

What advice would you give SKEMA students aiming for an international career?

I’d say take every opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, take risks, and remain curious. SKEMA offers a wealth of opportunities, from international exchanges to group projects with students from all over the world, and the chance to manage multicultural projects. These experiences helped me understand different cultures and adopt a global business perspective, which is crucial for success in an international environment. Also, be proactive—whether it’s joining student associations or attending networking events, as it’s often through these interactions that the best career opportunities arise.
