Maxence Mugnier divides his time between golf courses and the Grand Paris campus of SKEMA Business School. At 23, the student secured 5th place in the World University Golf Championships as part of a team and came 12th in the individual rankings. He chose SKEMA for its MSc in Auditing, Management Accounting & Information Systems, opening a career path that resonates with him.

Maxence, you hold the status of a high-level athlete at SKEMA. Could you tell us about your background and why you chose the Grand Paris campus?

Before joining SKEMA, I earned a Bachelor's degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I decided to head to the United States for four years as part of a sports-study programme. My experience in America helped me grow tremendously, competing alongside high-level athletes and participating in numerous tournaments. I chose SKEMA because the school is attuned to the needs of elite athletes. It allows people like me to pursue both academic excellence and our sports ambitions, organising the schedule cleverly so I can sit my midterms and compete. In my case, that means joining the French national golf team and competing in the 2025 European Championship. After discussions with SKEMA’s team, I opted for the Grand Paris campus, which is close to my training ground at the Saint-Cloud golf club.

You’ve chosen to pursue the MSc in Auditing, Management Accounting & Information Systems. Why this path?

I decided to pursue auditing based on advice from my mother, who works in this field and recommended it because of the wide range of career opportunities it offers. If my golfing career doesn't deliver the results I hope for, I want to rely on a strong academic background to enter the job market. This master's programme equips students with a broad set of knowledge, tools, and skills, and the ability to apply them in a variety of operational and entrepreneurial contexts.

What’s your favourite club, and who’s your favourite golfer?

My favourite club is the 2-iron, and my favourite golfer is Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy!
