SKEMA Publika continues its work on digital ethics and the geopolitics of sport
SKEMA Publika is continuing its exploration of contemporary issues with a series of publications and conferences. With topics ranging from human dignity in the digital age to the geopolitics of sports, SKEMA Publika is demonstrating once again its commitment to stimulating thought and debate on forefront issues. A detailed review.
In October 2023, Edgar Gastón Jacobs, a lawyer and law professor at our Belo Horizonte campus, and Marina de Castro Firmo, a specialist in public policies and governmental management, presented an innovative report on human dignity and neuro-rights in the digital age, laying the groundwork for a crucial discussion on human rights in the context of technological advances. That same month, the corporate duty of vigilance was closely examined by Diane de Saint-Affrique, a law professor at the Lille campus, whose articles were widely disseminated, including by the Business & Legal Review media.
Collaborative ethics and French influence
The cooperation between artificial intelligence and human intelligence was highlighted by Claude Revel, director of development at SKEMA Publika, and David Fayon, a digital consultant and digital transformation expert, with particular resonance on the specialised media Tech Ethic. The competitiveness of French-speaking territories was addressed during the Francophone Economic Intelligence Festival in November 2023.
Reputational and economic impacts of Paris 2024
Jean-Baptiste Guégan, author and specialist in the geopolitics of sports, pointed out in an article published in December 2023 the geo-economic importance of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for France, a globally significant event. In his article, the researcher mentioned that its momentum would be "more impactful than a COP, a Fashion Week, or a BRICS summit." As a reminder, France is expecting 15 million visitors, mainly from abroad.
In the same vein, Simon Chadwick, a professor-researcher who works on the relationships between sport, geopolitics, and economics, dealt with the influence of sport in the power strategies of Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Simon Chadwick's article analysed how Qatar and Saudi Arabia use sport as a tool to strengthen their power and geopolitical influence. It highlighted the growing role of states in sports policy, marked by a power shift from the North to the South. Qatar, with the FIFA World Cup 2022, exemplifies this trend by using sport for its national transformation and increased renown. Saudi Arabia follows a similar approach, investing heavily in sport for strategic objectives and national development.
Francophonie at the heart of the debates
On October 20, 2023, a conference brought together experts to discuss francophonie and its influence over time. With prominent participants and moderation by Claude Revel, the event was a crossroads of ideas and perspectives on the place of the French language in the world.
A crossroads of expertise and influence
With significant contributions such as videos on the future of metaverses with SKEMA Professor Margherita Pagani, head of SKEMA Centre for Artificial intelligence, and Raluca Sandu, associate dean of SKEMA Faculty, on the geopolitics of accounting, SKEMA Publika positioned itself as a hub of expertise, where knowledge meets contemporary issues to enlighten and influence the world of tomorrow.
