On 5 March, nearly 60 students from Suzhou campus embarked on an immersive visit to CMA CGM China and Yangshan Deep-Water Port in Shanghai.”. Organized by the SKEMA China Talent & Careers Center, the visit provided students with firsthand insights into the global logistics industry, international shipping operations, and the latest trends in supply chain management.
Stephanie Bianchi, Director of SKEMA Talent & Careers, Matthieu Dumont, Director of SKEMA China and Sherry She, Career Advisor of SKEMA China, accompanied the students on this immersive learning experience.
Exploring journey into global logistics
The day began at the Yangshan Port Exhibition Zone, where port staff introduced students to the port’s history, core operations, and the role of technological innovation in enhancing logistics efficiency. A car tour of the port allowed students to observe cargo transportation, loading processes, and automated operations at the world’s busiest deep-water port. A stop at the observation deck provided a panoramic view of the port’s impressive container throughput and bustling activities.
Students shared their enthusiasm for the visit. “Witnessing the scale and efficiency of the world’s busiest port firsthand was truly impressive,” said Hédi Chanoufi. “We gained a deeper understanding of global logistics and supply chain operations, which complemented our academic studies at SKEMA. The opportunity to interact with industry professionals and learn about their challenges and innovations was both inspiring and educational.”
Arthur Constans, a Master in Management (M1) student, echoed this sentiment: “The experience was truly remarkable as we took a bus tour through the terminals and saw massive cranes unloading ships firsthand. Additionally, CMA CGM provided valuable insights into the future of transportation, including the full automation at Terminal 4.”
Following the port visit, students attended a presentation of CMA CGM China. Industry professionals discussed the company’s extensive global shipping network, digital transformation strategies, and the evolving landscape of supply chain management.
