Student experience: Matthieu, intern at Renault and entrepreneur
Matthieu Riff, 23, is currently doing his end-of-study internship at Renault Group, where he is an internal strategy consultant. During his studies at SKEMA's Grand Paris campus, he did the MSc in Corporate Financial Management as part of his Master in Management (PGE) programme. In this interview, he talks about his internship, a mobile app he is co-developing with his friend, and more.
Matthieu, you are currently an internal strategy consultant at Renault. Can you tell us what your missions are?
I am in charge of collecting, gathering and synthesising information to analyse a given situation or to benchmark competitors and other players, outside the automotive sector, for the group's operational strategy department. I am also required to establish critical and objective diagnoses based on data and facts through rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis. From a strictly operational point of view, I am responsible for providing solutions to the business lines in the field of organisation, process, managerial, operational and economic model, etc. These solutions are systematically co-constructed with the business line.
The objective is to ensure that the processes we put in place are effective. Finally, I would like to thank the Renault group for entrusting me with responsibilities at an important level, which today enables me to be at the heart of a key environment.
In what way have your studies at SKEMA benefitted you?
My finance courses were extremely beneficial! These lessons are very useful in my day-to-day work, whether it's the mathematical formulas I studied in class or the statistical and financial modelling in Excel. I would really like to emphasise the quality of the courses. I can't talk about my course at SKEMA without mentioning my semester in Belo Horizonte. Brazil gave me a different vision of the world. From a cultural point of view, I learnt a lot of positive things. I think all these aspects helped me to be recruited as an intern at Renault, alongside other students from high-level institutions of higher education.
With your fellow student Maxime Dupuy, you tried your hand at entrepreneurship with the creation of an app that was much talked about during the presidential campaign. Can you tell us what became of the "Who thinks what" app?
"Qui Pense Quoi" (Who thinks what) is a project that aims to help citizens form an opinion on themes such as politics and geopolitics. Our citizen initiative was widely reported in the media and received a huge media coverage everywhere in France. Today, we continue to work on this citizen project, in addition to our respective professional activities, with the help of a developer.
