Student’s start-up project makes it easier to choose a perfume

There are as many fragrances as there are scents and subtle nuances. With this in mind, Sarfraaz Khan, a student in the Master in Management (PGE) programme at SKEMA’s Sophia Antipolis campus, hailing from Coimbatore, a city located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, decided to launch his startup in the perfume sector. In this interview, he talks about why he chose SKEMA and his entrepreneurial vision.

Sarfraaz, can you tell us why you chose SKEMA to pursue your studies?

I chose to join SKEMA because I was looking for an institution of excellence located near Grasse and its perfume industry. I have a background in engineering. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in production engineering, but I developed a strong interest in the perfume sector. As such, I took two courses related to this field. On the Sophia Antipolis campus, I am actively learning French to be able to interact more easily with my interlocutors. I am very satisfied with the Master in Management (PGE) programme, especially the courses in entrepreneurship, marketing, corporate finance, digital economy transformation and human resources management. I'm also learning a lot from the international cultures on campus.

Can you tell us about your company's concept?

I am currently working on a project that focuses on the behaviour of a perfumery's customers. I'm thinking about the link between the psychology of consumers and the choice they make when they go to a perfumery to choose a perfume. To do this, I am working on a psychological questionnaire that would be given to each customer of a perfumery. Then, the results would be used by an artificial intelligence algorithm that would present perfume recommendations from its database that correspond to the customer's profile.

What are the next steps in the project?

The next step is to consolidate the project's guidelines and I intend to do this during my gap year. In the near future, I also plan to take advantage of the SKEMA Ventures Bootstrap workshop to refine the project. I'm counting on the support of the SKEMA Ventures team on campus to fine-tune the business strategy.
